directorial photography
in the fall of 2024 i created an exploratory portfolio surrounding the topic of consumerism for an intermediate photography class at oregon state university. the following images spark conversation surrounding the relationship between spending, trends, and identity.
01
feast

for this directorial project i paid careful attention to every detail within the image. old receipts form the placemat for this table setting. stark white and vibrant red draw the viewer in, mimicking the color pallet of the target logos scattered among the receipts. a faux credit card in the center of the plate shapes a narrative surrounding the purchasing habits of many Americans today.
02
grasping for Air

this multi-image piece shines a light on the human condition of greed surrounding materialism. the Nike Air Covet sits atop a podium, with hands fighting for the prize. do people prioritize objects over one another when saving money is on the line? inspired by the book of Ecclesiastes, where "all is vanity and a grasping for the wind."
03
Update Required

designed to mirror a classic Apple advertisement, this image sparks conversation surrounding the buy-in neccessary to maintain these products. once you purchase your first iPhone there will soon be an update required to maintain operations: buying the newest one. it's the infinite consumerism loop.

this image was created using my family's personal iPhone boxes collected and kept from years of product usage.
